Shreyas Iyer may have found a new home with Punjab Kings, but the conversation around his exit from Kolkata Knight Riders continues to spark debate among fans.

The latest controversy surfaced after KKR marked the second anniversary of their IPL 2024 title triumph with a celebratory social media post. The franchise shared the image of the squad posing with the trophy, but fans quickly noticed that title-winning captain Shreyas Iyer was missing from the main picture.

The move triggered strong reactions online, with many fans accusing KKR of overlooking the player who led them to their third IPL title.

As soon as the anniversary post went live, social media was flooded with criticism directed at the franchise.

“Trophy posting without the captain? He was the biggest reason this team became a beast. Absolute clown admin,” one fan wrote.

“I thought we were more classy than this. Irrespective of the differences with Shreyas, he should have been acknowledged. He won the title as skipper,” another commented.

“Not posting the captain who won you the trophy after a decade, and then saying Iyer ditched KKR,” a user posted.

Another fan added, “The team made sure there was not a single photo of Shreyas Iyer. That tells you everything.”

“Wow… no captain in the trophy-winning celebration. That’s the reason for your downfall,” another reaction read.

The relationship between Iyer and KKR has remained a major talking point ever since the franchise released him ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction despite their championship-winning season. At the time, the decision drew backlash from fans who felt the skipper had not received the respect he deserved after delivering the title.

Meanwhile, KKR endured a disappointing IPL 2026 season under Ajinkya Rahane. The side managed only six wins in 14 matches and failed to qualify for the playoffs despite staying in contention until their final league game.

Punjab Kings, led by Iyer, also suffered a dramatic collapse in IPL 2026. After beginning the season with six consecutive victories and looking like strong playoff contenders, PBKS lost six matches in a row to crash out of the playoff race.
